The BOD unanimously approved the immediate submission of a request for an exemption from the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) granting the MW champion automatic qualification for the BCS bowls games following the 2012 and 2013 football seasons. The Mountain West met the threshold to request an exemption by virtue of its performance during the recently completed four-year (2008-2011) evaluation period.

An in-depth discussion of the recent NCAA Division I Board of Directors reform initiatives was also part of the BOD agenda. The Board expressed strong support for the proposed academic reforms, as well the efforts to improve student-athlete welfare. It was the consensus of the group these concepts must be pursued within the context of cost containment and equity considerations.

The member institutions had a separate discussion relating to the October Memorandum of Understanding with Conference USA. No decisions were made.
