Full-time temporary position anticipated to end on or before December 31, 2006, with possibility for reappointment and/or permanency.

SALARY: $3,268 - $3,901 mo. Commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will assess, evaluate, and monitor student-athletes' academic ability to achieve academic improvement. Develop a personal portfolio for academic improvement. Monitor grades and ensure compliance with conference, SDSU, and NCAA eligibility requirements. Teach a section of freshman success class. Assist with designing, implementing, evaluating, and improving comprehensive Academic Game Plan to increase student retention and performance. Communicate with coaches, faculty, staff, and administrators. Assign tutors and mentors with consultation of Director of Athletic Academic Services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Working knowledge of university policies and procedures. Knowledge of conference, SDSU, and NCAA regulations, student-athlete advising, and counseling. Knowledge of diagnostic testing procedures to assess student strengths and weaknesses, student development, personal guidance techniques/strategies, and applicable regulations. Skills in counseling, tutoring, collection and analysis of data, curriculum advising, and program development. Strong computer skills. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, faculty members, staff, and administration. Ability to identify solutions to student challenges. Ability to work with a culturally diverse population. Ability to work as the member of a team toward common goals.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree and two years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience in academic advising, training, and program planning. Master's degree preferred. Experience working with football athletes preferred.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS REQUIRED: Ability to work evenings and weekends.
