ATHLETICS This position is in the Management Personnel Plan and earns management benefits. SALARY: Commensurate with background, education, and experience. San Diego State University, founded in 1897, is one of 23 campuses of the California State University system. SDSU enrolls more than 33,000 students and offers more than 150 degree programs. The campus employs approximately 4,000 faculty and staff. The campus is located on 270 acres approximately 15 miles east of downtown San Diego and contains over 8.0 million square feet of academic and support facilities. RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Athletic Director, the Associate Athletic Director of Development will support and enhance the mission of the San Diego State University Athletic Department. The incumbent will establish, develop, and implement goals and be responsible for the administration and direction of major fund solicitation; will be an active member of the Athletic Director's administrative staff. This position is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of a comprehensive fund raising program for Aztec Athletics. Duties include: direct and approve selected capital, major, planned, annual, booster club, and sports association programs including the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of all private contributions; develop major gift potential from private and corporate sources; manage annual fund and special gift programs. The position may represent the Athletic Director at NCAA, conference, and special meetings which the Director cannot attend. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a four-year college or university required. Must have a minimum of three years or more of experience in fund raising and capital project gift solicitation in higher education. Must have experience in public relations, marketing, capital project gift solicitation, and fund raising in athletics or other related field. Must have demonstrated success in the solicitation of major gifts. Must have strong organizational and leadership skills with demonstrated competence and success in program development, administration, decision-making, and fiscal management. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team relationship with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, alumni, public, and the media.
