(COUGARTOWN, Utah) -- On Wednesday, Oct. 12, Provo City will begin painting a BYU block "Y" logo in several intersections around town. The project is part of Cougartown that was announce by Mayor Lewis Billings on Sept. 1, 2005.
The block "Y" will be painted in white with a blue outline.
The first intersection to be painted is located at Center Street and University Avenue. Painting is scheduled to begin around 12:30 p.m., Wednesday. Cosmo, the Cougar mascot, will be on hand to help with the painting.
Other intersections that will be painted during the week include:
- 300 South and University Ave.
- 500 South and University Ave.
- 800 North and University Ave.
- Bulldog Blvd. (1230 N.) and University Ave.
Cougartown is a collaborative effort between BYU Athletics Department, Provo City and Corporate Alliance. Cougartown's purpose is to unite community support inside Utah County for BYU Athletics and create an exciting game-day atmosphere comparable to many great college towns for home football games.
The Cougartown project will including street banners on University Avenue and University Parkway, Cougartown flags hanging from businesses and the BYU logo in city intersections. It will provide area businesses an avenue to unite in support of BYU Athletics and ignite new excitement before, during and after BYU events.
