Assistant Softball Coach

Part-time temporary 12-month appointment anticipated to end on or before May 31, 2006, with the possibility for reappointment. SALARY: Commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skill level. RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will assist in organizing and administering appropriate pre-season, season, and post-season programs necessary for a quality softball program. Assess talent of prospective student-athletes. Assist with the development of competitive schedules. Make travel arrangements. Initiate and maintain communications with prospective student-athletes in line with NCAA and conference regulations. Assist with preparation of proposed budget. Assist with selection of equipment and uniform requests for team. Work with Student-Athlete Academic Support relative to eligibility and academic progress of team members. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of softball fundamentals. Ability to work successfully with athletes and University administrators, faculty, staff, students, donors, and boosters. Ability to motivate students to excel in all areas. Ability to work with college-level athletes as a group and on an individual basis. Proven ability to communicate with high school and college students. Desire and ability to work within the philosophy of the Department of Athletics, the Mountain West Conference, and the NCAA. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in related field. Demonstration of ability in teaching softball skills and fundamentals. Master's degree preferred. Collegiate coaching and/or Division I experience preferred. SPECIALIZED SKILLS REQUIRED: Prior competitive experience at the collegiate level.
