RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Athletic Academic Services, under dual report to the Director of Athletics and the Vice President of Student Affairs, is responsible for oversight and administration of all academic areas including academic advising, admissions and eligibility processes, and life skills/community service. Responsible for supervising, supporting, hiring, training, and evaluating academic support counselors and all other Student-Athlete Academic Support Services (SAASS) staff. Responsible for creating, monitoring and evaluating guidelines, goals, and expectations in all areas of SAASS. This includes daily supervision and feedback, problem-solving, and continual assessment of the overall program. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge, experience and understanding of student-athlete advising and counseling, life skills programs, and eligibility issues. General working knowledge of university policies and procedures. Knowledge of conference and NCAA regulations associated with athlete academic progress. Knowledge of diagnostic testing procedures to assess student strengths and weaknesses. Knowledge of student development and personal guidance techniques/strategies. Proven skills and success in counseling, tutoring, collecting and analyzing data, curriculum advising, and program development. Excellent supervisory, organizational, and leadership skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work as the member of a team toward common goals. Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and establish relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the university community. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in related field and minimum five years experience in Division I athletic academic advising and related areas. Master's degree or beyond preferred.
