FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State University and Nelligan Sports Marketing today announced an aggressive partnership that will put the Rams' athletic program at the forefront of regional radio coverage. Interim Director of Athletics Christine Susemihl and the school's new marketing partner, Nelligan Sports Marketing, announced a radio broadcast partnership with 710 KNUS, News/Talk in Denver and KIIX 1410-The Zone in Fort Collins.
"Finding the right radio partnership for Colorado State University has been our top priority for the past several months. After a lengthy and exhaustive process, we believe we have found in KNUS and KIIX the ideal platform in which to broadcast our games and communicate on a routine basis with 140,000 alumni and the rest of our fans throughout the state," said Susemihl.
The agreement with KNUS calls for live exclusive radio coverage of all football and men's basketball games plus at least five regular season women's basketball games on an annual basis throughout the state of Colorado. Colorado State's entire men's schedule has not been aired in Denver for several years, and there has never been regular-season coverage for the women's program. Weekly shows with football coach Sonny Lubick and men's basketball coach Dale Layer will be featured on 710 KNUS and 1410 KIIX. Clear Channel, the parent company of KIIX, will continue to originate network coverage of Colorado State football, and men's and women's basketball games. Football and men's basketball games can be heard on KIIX and KNUS. Women's basketball games will be carried on KIIX 1410-The Zone or KCOL radio (600 AM) with selected games on KNUS. A weekly show with Rams' coach Chris Denker will be aired by
KIIX.
"Ram fans will be able to enjoy expanded radio coverage of Sonny Lubick's football team each week and listen to men's and women's basketball games as well. With the success that our basketball programs have enjoyed, we knew it was essential to enhance this radio coverage to our fans throughout the state," continued Susemihl. "We wanted a strong Denver radio outlet that was committed to a long-term partnership and able to provide exclusive coverage of all football and men's basketball games. It was also important to have increased exposure for all of our programs on a daily basis."
The agreement joins the Rams' program with KNUS, a regionally-recognized news/talk station. KNUS is owned by Salem Media of Colorado, with a signal that covers more than 49,000 square miles along the Front Range and serves a population of more than 3.3 million people that includes more than 1.38 million households. Salem Media of Colorado is owned and operated by Salem Communications Corporation (Nasdaq; SALM), a leading U.S. radio broadcaster. Upon the close of all announced transactions, the company will own and operate 92 radio stations, including 58 stations in the top 25 markets. In addition to its radio properties, Salem owns the Salem Radio Network, Salem Radio Representatives, Salem Web Network, and Salem Publishing.
KIIX radio is owned by Clear Channel. This announcement lengthens a broadcast partnership with KIIX that dates back nearly three decades. KIIX began broadcasting Rams' football and men's basketball games in the early 1970's.
"We believe it's critical for the continued growth of our program to maintain our existing relationship with KIIX in Fort Collins," Susemihl said. "KIIX has long been recognized as a vital part of our athletic
program and the community. Its continued involvement in our program is
important to all of us."
CSU and Nelligan officials also said plans are underway to add more statewide affiliates to the radio partnership in coming weeks. As part of the broadcast partnership, Rams fans throughout the world can also hear live coverage provided by the radio broadcast team via the school's official website, CSURAMS.com.
