COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson announced the hiring of Chelsea Guetz as Assistant Director of Championships/Communications and Katie Cavender as Multimedia Coordinator.
Guetz, who recently completed an internship in the MWC championships and communications departments, is a 2006 graduate of Colorado State University where she earned a bachelor's degree in technical journalism. In addition to assisting with the day-to-day operations of the MWC championships and communications departments, she will handle the organization of various elements for 10 MWC championship events and coordinate the production of game management policies and handbooks. The Kiowa, Colo., native will also serve as the league's primary media contact for cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field as well as the secondary contact for women's basketball.
Cavender earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2005. While pursuing her degree, she also worked as a student assistant in the Wolf Pack athletics department, primarily in the areas of sports information, publicity and promotions. Following graduation, Cavender spent a year as a public relations intern with the Pacific-10 Conference, where she served as the primary contact for baseball, men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's tennis. A native of Elko, Nev., Cavender comes to the MWC from the Boise State athletics department, where she was the assistant media coordinator for the 2006 MPC Computers Bowl and provided day-to-day support in facilities, game operations and planning. Cavender will oversee all aspects of the Mountain West Conference Web site and publications, and handle other duties as assigned.
