FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State University has chosen a pair of architectural firms -- including one based in Fort Collins -- to coordinate the expansion and renovation of Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium.

The $15.2 million project -- funded by an unprecedented gift from Pat Stryker's Bohemian Foundation -- will add luxury suites, new scoreboards, a video screen, artificial playing surface, restrooms, concession stands and more than 5,000 seats to the 30,000-seat facility, which opened in 1968. The gift also is slated to pay for renovations of the press box and Hughes Room at the stadium, as well as adding an artificial turf field to the practice facility south of Moby Arena.

Aller-Lingle Architects P.C. of Fort Collins will work with Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum, Inc. (better known as HOK) on the project. If all goes well, the three-stage project will be completed by the start of the 2005 season.

"HOK is recognized as the leader nationally and internationally in sports facility design," CSU interim athletic director Christine Susemihl said. "We are pleased that HOK will plan the expansion and renovation of the stadium. It will be, without question, one of he finest facilities in the region.
