COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson announced the hiring of Assistant Director of Communications Marlon Edge and the promotion of Javan Hedlund to Director of Communications.

Edge becomes a member of the Mountain West Conference communications staff after a one-year stint as the conference's communications intern. He served as the primary contact for cross-country, men's and women's tennis, indoor track & field and softball, as well as assisting in the day-to-day operations of the communications department. He is a 2001 graduate of San Diego State University with a B.A. in journalism.

Hedlund is an original staff member of the MWC, serving as an Assistant Director of Communications the past three years. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native oversees men's basketball, golf and publications for the conference office. Hedlund graduated with his B.A. in speech communications with an emphasis in broadcasting from Colorado State University in 1996 and worked in the CSU sports information department as a student. He moved to Oklahoma City after graduation and was a sales and marketing representative for the Texas Rangers' Triple-A affiliate Oklahoma City 89ers (now the Redhawks). After the 1997 baseball season, he returned to the West Coast to work in the Athletic Media Relations Office at San Diego State University from 1997-99, while also serving as a media assistant for the San Diego Padres during the 1998 season.
