BYU Leads Mountain West In Sears Directors' Cup Final Standings

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU finished the 2000-01 athletic season ranked 17th in the final Sears Directors' Cup standings. The Cougars finish was the highest among Mountain West Conference institutions. BYU totaled 707 points in the final standings, placing ahead of Oklahoma (698.5) and behind Duke (721). All eight MWC schools placed in the final standings - Colorado State (48th, 373.5 pts), Utah (76th, 226 pts), San Diego State (95th, 174 pts), New Mexico (102nd, 159 pts), Air Force (106th, 151.5 pts), Wyoming (121st, 122.5 pts), UNLV (130th, 112.5 pts). The Directors' Cup is presented annually by Sears, Roebuck and Co. and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) based on points accumulated for placing in national championship competition. Of the 318 eligible colleges and universities competing in NCAA Division I, a total of 260 (82 percent) scored points in the Sears Directors' Cup standings. |
