18 MWC Student-Athletes Selected to the Verizon Academic All-America Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference placed 18 student-athletes on the 2002-2003 Verizon Academic All-America Teams. Utah gymnast Theresa Kulikowski was named Verizon Academic All-America At-Large Team Member of the Year in the University Division.

The Verizon Academic All-America Teams program recognizes student-athletes who have succeeded on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), be in their second year of participation at the school and be a varsity starter or key contributor to their team.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Verizon Academic All-District teams in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, men's at-large (fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling) and women's at-large (crew, gymnastics, skiing, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, water polo, field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, golf and rifle). A first team, second team and third team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions. Football consists of just first and second teams.

The 18 MWC members on the Verizon Academic All-America Team list include six from Utah, four from Colorado State, two from Air Force, New Mexico and Wyoming, and one from BYU and San Diego State.
