PARK CITY, Utah - The annual Mountain West Conference Board of Directors meeting began today at the Goldener Hirsch Inn with initial discussions on a number of key topics. The gathering of the presidents from the member institutions that comprise the MWC marked the Board's sixth formal meeting since the league's inception in 1999.

The Board of Directors received a detailed report from the Conference's television consultants, including examination of the MWC in the sports television marketplace and potential exposure models, in relation to a proposed extension of the MWC's agreement with the ESPN family of networks. The Board will continue its television discussions tomorrow.

The MWC Joint Council Executive Committee also presented its annual report to the Board, highlighting several issues addressed by the Joint Council during the 2003-04 academic year. The Board of Directors supported the Joint Council's increased emphasis on sportsmanship, urging additional initiatives and aggressive enforcement efforts.

"We continue to be pleased with the progress of the Mountain West Conference," said BYU President and Board chair Dr. Cecil O. Samuelson. "This is an important time in the history of the MWC and we look forward to charting our future course over the next couple days."
