45 MWC Student-Athletes Selected To The Verizon Academic All-District Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference placed 45 student-athletes from its 19 sponsored sports on the 2001-2002 Verizon Academic All-District Team.

To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), be in their second year of participation at the school and be an important contributor to their team. MWC institutions fall into three districts: District VI (New Mexico), District VII (Air Force, Colorado State and Wyoming) and District VIII (BYU, San Diego State, UNLV and Utah).

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Verizon Academic All-District teams in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, men's at-large (fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling) and women's at-large (crew, gymnastics, skiing, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, water polo, field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, golf and rifle). A first team, second team and third team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions. Football consists of just first and second teams.

The 45 MWC members on the Verizon Academic All-District Team list include nine from Colorado State, eight from BYU, seven from Utah, six from New Mexico, four from Air Force, UNLV and Wyoming and three from San Diego State.
