PROVO, Utah - The 2001 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships tournament brackets were announced Thursday.
BYU's 67th-ranked men's team will stay home to host one of 16 four-team regionals, May 11-12.The No. 4-seeded Cougars will take on No. 1 seed and 14th-ranked Cal-Berkeley in the first round. The other two teams competing in Provo are No. 2 seed and 20th-ranked Fresno State and its first round draw, No. 3 seed and 47th-ranked Wake Forest.
FSU and Wake Forest square off May 11 at 10 a.m. at the BYU outdoor tennis courts. Beginning at 2 p.m. BYU will take the court against Cal-Berkeley. Tickets for single-day admission are $2 for faculty, staff and students, and $4 for general admission. Tournament ticket admission for the two days can be purchased, $3 for faculty, staff and students, and $7 for general admission. All ticket sales will be available at the door.
The men's team automatically qualified for the NCAA tournament after winning the Mountain West Conference tournament on April 28. The men, the No. 4 seed in their tournament, defeated No. 5 Utah, No. 1 San Diego State, then No. 3 UNLV in the title match to take the championship. Head coach Jim Osborne was honored as MWC Coach of the Year.
