SAN DIEGO - Make him fluffy. And huggable. And innocuous. And there you have it - the seemingly perfect recipe for a successful college mascot.

Check out Michigan State University. The Spartans. Pretty tough guys, no? Representatives of a warrior culture, right?

The mascot there is called "Sparty."
