FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State University today
announced the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of
Intent (NLI). All four will enroll at Colorado State in the fall of 2003.
Tonya Mokelki will play volleyball for the Rams while Janay DeLoach,
Dennis Majerus and Drew Morano will compete in track and field.
Mokelki, a 5-11 outside hitter/right side hitter, will join coach
Tom Hilbert's program from Weyburn Comprehensive School in Weyburn,
Saskatchewan, Canada. She also plays club volleyball for the Regina
Rads, which recently won provincials and is headed for nationals.
Mokelki joins fellow Saskatchewan native Becky Sarauer -- who will be a
junior -- on the Rams roster.
DeLoach was one of the top long jumpers in the country last year.
The senior at Eielson Air Force Base High School, holds the Alaskan
state record with a leap of 19-3. She was also a runner-up in both the
100 and 200 meters last year at the state championship. DeLoach comes
from a very talented family as her uncle competed in both the 1984 and
1988 Olympics and her great grandparents competed in the 1932 Olympic games.
Majerus is a local product, coming to Colorado State from Rocky
Mountain High School. At the 2002 state championship, Majerus placed
sixth in the 200 meters and was seventh in the long jump. He also
finished sixth in the long jump as a sophomore. This season, Majerus
has been a consistent factor for the Lobos.
Moreno joins the track & field team from St. Thomas Aquinas High
School in Overland Park, Kansas. Moreno is the two-time defending 6A
State Champion in the 200 meters and the defending champion in the 400
meters. He was also named to the All-State team in football as a
running back and last year was the runner-up in the 100 meters.
The signing period for National Letters of Intent for all sports
except football and basketball runs now through August 1.
