BYU Leads Mountain West In Sears Directors' Cup Winter Standings

Division I Current Winter Standings (PDF Format)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU's fall sports season success coupled with it success in indoor track and field placed it fourth in the current winter standings for the Sears Directors' Cup. The Cougars are ranked highest among Mountain West Conference institutions.

BYU totaled 361.5 points in the current winter standings, placing behind only Stanford with 645.5 points, Colorado 481 and North Carolina 454.5.

All eight MWC schools placed in the current winter standings - Colorado State (38th, 175 pts), Utah (52nd, 130 pts), New Mexico (65th, 105 pts), UNLV (126th, 45 pts), Wyoming (156th, 27 pts), Air Force (158th, 26 pts), and San Diego State (162nd, 20 pts).

The Directors' Cup is presented annually by Sears, Roebuck and Co. and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) based on points accumulated for placing in national championship competition.

This is the first set of winter standings and includes the sports of rifle, skiing and women and men's indoor track and field. Winning national championships were Denver in skiing, Louisiana State in women's indoor track and field, and Tennessee in men's indoor track and field. The highest Division I finish in rifle, a national collegiate sport, was Kentucky in second place.

Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 for men and 10 for women. Each national champion receives 100 points. Winter standings to date follows. Please note that standings published midseason are unofficial standings. Official standings will be published upon the completion of the spring season. Codes are as follows: W - women, M - men, T&F - track and field.
