Full-time temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2007, with possibility for reappointment and/or permanency.
SALARY: $3,268 - $3,901 mo. Commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will receive, review, and process all admissions applications and transcripts for prospective student-athletes. Serve as liaison between coaches and university admissions and housing offices. Coordinate housing applications, communicate with coaches regarding housing needs, and maintain contact with housing coordinator. Serve as Athletic Department's primary contact with Enrollment Services and with NCAA Clearinghouse. Track and coordinate paperwork for all special admits. Respond to inquiries from incoming student-athletes, coaches, and parents regarding transcripts and admissions. Provide weekly updates to coaches regarding student-athletes' admissions status. Review transcripts for admissions and NCAA Clearinghouse core requirements and provide recruiting recommendations to coaches. Assist compliance office with initial and continuing eligibility waivers. Monitor degree progress and continuing eligibilty in conjunction with academic advisors.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Working knowledge of university policies and procedures. Knowledge of conference, SDSU, and NCAA regulations, student-athlete advising, and counseling. Knowledge of NCAA Division I initial eligibility, continuing degree progress requirements, and academic progress rate legislation. Knowledge of SDSU admissions requirements preferred. Strong organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, faculty members, staff, and administration. Ability to identify solutions to student challenges. Ability to work with a culturally diverse population. Ability to work as the member of a team toward common goals.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. Master's degree preferred. Four years experience in NCAA Division I athletics compliance or certification preferred.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS REQUIRED: Two years experience in NCAA Division I compliance, certification, and/or academic support. Compliance with all NCAA, conference, and San Diego State University rules, policies and procedures is of paramount importance to the university. All position responsibilities should be carried out in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.
