Full-time temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2007, with possibility for reappointment and/or permanency.

SALARY: $3,213 - $4,176 mo. Commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Media Relations Director will act as the primary media contact for a variety of varsity sports including serving as primary contact for men's basketball and contact for additional sports as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Media Relations. Coordinate and prepare editorial layout and design for media guides and game programs. Conceptualize and implement design/layout for media materials. Coordinate game press operations for assigned sports. Prepare weekly news releases and conference/NCAA reports. Coordinate photographic needs for assigned sports. Maintain and update statistical records. Maintain Web site for assigned programs. Travel as publicity representative to away events. Supervise student intern support personnel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of university policies and procedures, conference, and NCAA regulations. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Excellent organizational, oral/written communication, and interpersonal skills. Excellent leadership and public speaking skills. Ability to work in a team setting with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and university constituents. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple functions and make decisions under pressure.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of three years full-time experience in collegiate or professional sports media relations. Master's degree preferred.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS REQUIRED: Experience with QuarkXpress, Adobe Photoshop, MS Office, and Web site maintenance. Proficient with statistical programs. Ability to travel to off-campus events. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Compliance with all NCAA, conference, and San Diego State University rules, policies and procedures is of paramount importance to the university. All position responsibilities should be carried out in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.
