The 2004 Mountain West Conference Championship will be hosted by Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., marking the third time the event will be played at Moby Arena (capacity 8,745). All eight MWC institutions will compete for the tournament title November 18-20.
This year marks the first time ever that all seven championship matches will be available to a national audience. The Mountain West Conference reached an agreement with CSTV: College Sports Television [www.collegesports.com], the fastest-growing independent cable network, to televise all matches of the 2004 MWC Volleyball Championship. The MWC is the only conference to have all matches from its conference championship nationally televised.
Quarterfinal matches are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. (MT). Semifinal matches will take place Friday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. (MT) and the championship will take place at 3 p.m. MT on Saturday, Nov. 20. The afternoon quarterfinals, the semifinals and championship will appear live on CSTV, while the evening quarterfinals will air tape delayed.
The winner of the 2004 MWC Volleyball Championship will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The MWC has earned 15 NCAA Tournament bids the past five years with Colorado State advancing to the Sweet 16 four times in that span. BYU has made the round of 16 twice and Utah once.
Tickets for the event are available through the Colorado State ticket office by calling 800-491-RAMS (7267).
For media credentials, contact Marlon Edge at the Mountain West Conference Office at (719) 488-4052.
