With 252 wins, four NCAA Tournament appearances and three Mountain West Tournament titles as head coach of the San Diego State men's basketball team, Steve Fisher carries considerable clout on a campus enamored with Aztec hoops.

But not even Fisher, who guided his team to a record 34 wins and a spot in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 a year ago, can match the mastery of Mike Shrader.

Shrader, whose San Diego State women's swimming and diving team will defend its 2011 title at this year's MW Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., (Feb. 22-25) just finished steering the Aztecs to their second consecutive undefeated dual meet season. SDSU has won 38 straight dual meets, with Shrader in line to be tabbed the MW Coach of the Year for the fourth straight season.

In his fifth season at SDSU, Shrader currently sports a career record of 154-25-1, a winning percentage of .855. Nothing to sneeze at, considering legendary UCLA men's basketball coach John Wooden completed his career with an unequaled winning percentage of .813.

Much of Shrader's success has hinged on annually producing one of the top recruiting classes in the nation. Senior diver Kristen Meier heads into the MW Championships having concluded the regular season unbeaten in dual meets. She has 19 individual wins on the season, including 15 first-place finishes at dual meets and four at invitational events. Meier is the defending 2011 MW Diver of the Year.

Can anyone unseat the Aztecs? Is Meier in a league of her own? Here's a look at the 2012 MW Women's Swimming and Diving Championships:

• The Falcons finished the 2011-12 season with a 11-3 dual record. The 11 wins are the most since 2005 and the Falcons' .786 winning percentage is the best since 1998.

Freshman Michole Timm leads the way, having qualified for all three diving events. Senior Ashlee Erickson and sophomore Megan Harper have qualified on both the 1- and 3-meter springboard.

• In the Cougar Classic Fall Invitational, sophomores Monica Dudley and Jorgi Hobson both shaved time off of their school records in their respective events, the 1,000- and 1,650 free and 100-yard butterfly.

• SDSU has had the MW Swimmer of the Year at the past two conference championship meets, both of whom were freshman when they won the award: Meghan Zimmer (2010) and Kelly Marquenie (2011).

• During the 2011-12 season, Aztec swimmers have recorded 24 individual times that rank among the top 10 all-time at SDSU. In addition, 12 relay times and five diving marks have also entered the school's top 10 lists.

• Two school records have been set this season: freshman Taylor Lakey in the 200 breast (200.60 - over a second faster than the previous record) and senior Kristen Meier in 3-meter diving (355.60 - broke her own record).

• Sophomore Marley Prothero ranks in the top 40 in both 100 and 200 breast and has reached B times in both.

WyomingWyoming

• Senior Kelsey Conci earned Honorable Mention All-America in the 100 backstroke last season after placing 10th (52.36) at the NCAA Championships. She was the first Cowgirl in 19 years to earn All-America honors. Conci also set the MW and UW records in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.54 at the MW Championships.

• Conci has the 19th-fastest 50 freestyle time in the nation of 22.56, which is also the fastest in the MW. She is tied for the seventh-fastest time in the nation and ranks first in the MW in the 100 backstroke (52.67). She also has the fourth-fastest time in the MW in the 100 free (49.85). Her times gave her NCAA B cut times in the three events.
